Track & Field Improves NCAA Times at USF Invitational

TAMPA, Fla. - Senior Safiya Davy (Mitchellville, Md.) improved her NCAA qualifying time in the 100-meter hurdles after running at 13.63 to finish in second place, while both Davy (12.02) and Tiffany Wright (Lauderdale Lakes, Fla.) posted career-best times in the 100-meter dash at the USF Invitational in Tampa. Wright ran a career-best 11.99 in the preliminaries and then placed sixth in the finals with a 12.10, while Davy finished fourth overall after running a career-best 12.02 in the finals. Senior Andrea Pressley (Upper Marlboro, Md.) also had a big day with a career-best throw of 40.24 meters (132-00 feet) to place fifth in the javelin throw.

Pressley also improved her NCAA regional qualifying time in the 100-meter hurdles by running a 14.26 in the preliminaries, while posting a season-best 1:03.08 to finish eighth in the 400-meter hurdles. Lakisha Brooks (Upper Marlboro, Md.) ran a 58:34 to place 11th in the 400-meter dash, while Ashley Williams (Oklahoma City, Okla.) finished 12th (58:42) and Natasha Stevenson (Haverhill, Mass.) placed 13th (58:56). Sophomore Keiona Frenche (Riverdale, Md.) finished 12th in the 800-meter run with a 2:16.15, while sophomore Jennifer Tyler (Jupiter, Fla.) placed eighth in the 1,500-meter run with a 4:57.10.

Freshman Rachel Garvin (Denton, Texas) ran a 12:21.64 to place eighth in the 3000-meter steeplechase and freshman Stephanie Jeffers (Marston Mills, Mass.) finished 17th in the shot put with a throw of 12.43 meters (40-09.5 feet). Jeffers also placed 13th in the discus with a throw of 41.10 meters (134-10 feet) and ninth in the javelin with a 32.16 meters (105-06 feet).

JU did not compete in any of the relay competitions. The Dolphins return to action at the Atlantic Sun Outdoor Championships April 16-17 in Orlando.
