Stephanie Jeffers Hits Regional Mark in Shot at USF Invitational

TAMPA, Fla. - Sophomore Stephanie Jeffers (Marston Mills, Mass.) set a new school record in the shot put to lead the JU track squad at the USF Invitational. Jeffers, who finished third in the event, threw the shot 47-6 ¼, setting a new school record by nearly 18 inches at the USF Soccer-Track Stadium while also qualifying for the NCAA East Regional in Manhattan, N.Y., in late May.
Freshman Fallon Heffernan (Neptune Beach, Fla.) won her first full-length steeplechase of the year, completing the 3000-meter event in 11:24.28, for the Dolphins' only event winner on the weekend.
Sophomore Keiona Frenche (Riverdale, Md.) finished seventh in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:16.86, her best performance of the season, while sophomore Janita Ocana (Jacksonville/Ed White) inched closer to a regional qualifying mark in the long jump, leaping 19-4 to finish fifth in the event. Jeffers also rated 10th in the discus with a throw of 138-7.
JU has next weekend off before heading to the Atlantic Sun Championships in Nashville, Tenn., held on the Belmont University campus.
