Track and Field shows improvement at Gator Invitational

GAINESVILLE, Fla.- - Final Results for Gator Invitational

The Jacksonville University indoor track team produced 11 top ten performances to show steady improvement in their second meet of the season at the Gator Invitational on Sunday afternoon in Gainesville, Fla.

"We had some nice performances by our seniors and our freshmen today," said JU head coach Ron Grigg. "Senior Lindsey Moffenbier showed solid improvement from last week's 5000-meter run, while senior Tissilli Rogers improved upon her conference leading 55-meter dash time, which also ties her lifetime best. All three freshmen, Shunisha McClinton, Natasha Harvey and Simone Clark again improved upon their personal bests."

Moffenbier began the day for the Dolphins by placing third in the 5000-meter run for the second consecutive week. Today, she produced a time of 18:22.69, which is almost 22 seconds faster than her time at the Florida Intercollegiate (18:43.59).

Rogers ran a time of 7.00 in the 55-meter dash to finish in seventh place and beat her Atlantic Sun conference leading time of 7.07

Harvey, who earned A-Sun "Track Athlete of the Week" honors earlier this week, improved her personal best in the 55-meter hurdles by running an 8.14 to place seventh.

McClinton tossed the shot put 42' 8.25" to finish in sixth place and take the conference lead.

Other top Dolphin performances were junior Ashley Williams placing seventh in the 400-meter dash to improve her conference list leading performance. Junior Lindsay George finished 10th in the shot put, while junior Janita Ocana took eighth place the long jump. The foursome of Ocana, Harvey, Williams and sophomore Janel Grooms took fourth in the 4X400 meter relay with a time of 3:55.44.

"We know that every team in the conference is improving," said Grigg. "We need to keep working hard and getting better too."

The Dolphins return to action on Friday, Feb 17 as they compete at the A-Sun Conference indoor championshps in Johnson City, Tenn.
