Feb. 6, 2006

GAINESVILLE, Fla.- - Final Results for Pepsi Invitational

Freshman Shunisha McClinton tossed a personal best in the shot put and weight throw to improve her Atlantic Sun conference marks and help the Jacksonville University indoor track team complete a strong showing at the Pepsi Invitational on Sunday afternoon in Gainesville, Fla.

"We came here with a purpose," said JU head coach Ron Grigg. "It is our last regular season meet before the A-Sun Championships. Our goal was to show continued improvement and we did just that."

McClinton placed eighth in the shot put after tallying a 43.11-25. She finished 12th in the weight throw by tossing a personal best 49.11-75. Both throws currently lead the conference standings.

"Shunisha continues to impress in both the shot put and weight throw," Grigg said "She has shown huge gains every time she gets an opportunity to compete. Coach [Bambi] Carson is doing a great job with her."

Sophomore Janel Grooms and senior Janita Ocana also showed improvement for the Dolphins.

Grooms placed seventh in the 400-meter dash with posting a time of 57.34. Ocana improved her marks on the season in the 55-meter dash (7.12), 200-meter dash (25.57) and Long Jump (18.10-00).

Senior Tissilli picked up her best finish of the indoor season in the 55-meter dash by placing third with a time of 7.05. She also took 13th in the 200-meter dash by posting a 25.25.

Other top Dolphin performers were freshman Natasha Harvey who placed seventh in the 55-meter hurdles (8.23) and eighth in the long jump (18-11.25). Freshman Simone Clark finished tied for eighth in the 55-meter hurdles with tallying an 8.28. Sophomore Fallon Heffernan took seventh in the 3000-meter run with a time of 10:26.18, while senior Lindsey Moffenbier ran a lifetime best of 10:37.39.

"Everyone had a season best in at least one event today," said Grigg. "We now have less than two weeks remaining to put the finishing touches on our training before we leave for Johnson City and the inaugural A-Sun Indoor Championships."

The Dolphins wrap up the indoor season on Saturday, Feb. 17 in Johnson City, Tenn. to compete in the A-Sun Indoor Track and Field Championships.
