JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Freshman Janel Grooms won her third consecutive 400-meter hurdles of the season at the Hurricane Invitational on March 18 to be named Atlantic Sun "Track Athlete of the Week" as announced by the conference office on Wednesday.

Grooms became the second Dolphin in the 2006 season to win the honor after freshman Natasha Harvey took the accolades on January 18.

"Janel is off to an outstanding start to her freshman season," said JU head coach Ron Grigg. "She is running well and still has a lot to learn about the 400-hurdle event. It will be exciting to watch her learn and improve."

At the Hurricane Invitational, Grooms posted a 1:00.17 in the 400-meter hurdles to break the school record that she earlier set in this year. She also placed first at the USF Invitational on March 12 in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:02.34. Grooms took first in the hurdles with a 1:01.07 to start the 2006 outdoor season in the UCF Invitational.

The Dolphins race again starting on Thursday in Tallahassee, Fla. at the FSU relays.
