April 13, 2006

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - After a weekend off from racing, the Jacksonville University track and field team is now prepared to compete in the Atlantic Sun Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Clermont, Fla. starting on Friday.

"This is going to be an exciting A-Sun Championship," said JU head coach Ron Grigg. "We expect each opponent to be at their best on Friday and Saturday, so we know we too need to be at our best if we are going to accomplish our team goal."

The Dolphins have been producing stellar marks in every outdoor meet since winning the inaugural A-Sun Indoor track and field championships in Johnson City, Tenn. on Feb. 18.

At the Diet Pepsi Invitational on April 1, the Dolphins tallied 13 season-bests marks in their last meet before the conference championships. Junior Janita Ocana produced three season-bests marks in the 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash and long jump. Freshman Shunisha McClinton also added three season bests in the shot put, hammer throw and discus throw.

Currently, the Dolphins lead the conference in the 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash and 400-meter hurdles. They also rank first in the conference in the long jump.
