Janita Ocana named Atlantic Sun "Track Athlete of the Week"

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Junior Janita Ocana was named Atlantic Sun Conference "Track Athlete of the Week" after helping the Jacksonville University track and field team win the A-Sun outdoor track and field championships on April 15.

"Janita was one piece of a successful team effort," said JU head coach Ron Grigg. "She can now set her sights on individual and relay success at the regional championships in late May."

Ocana earned "Most Outstanding Track Performer" honors after winning the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.88 and took first place in the 200-meter dash with a 24.00. She finished second in the long jump at 19'9.5" to qualify for regionals. Ocana also claimed all-conference honors in the triple jump, finishing second with a jump of 36'11.5".

Earlier this season, Ocana earned gold in four events to help the Dolphins win the inaugural A-Sun indoor track championships. She finished first in the 60-meter dash (7.53), 200-meter dash (24.60), long jump (19'1.25") and assisted in the 4X400-meter relay victory to earn "Most Outstanding Track Performer" accolades.

The Dolphins are back in action on Saturday as they travel to Baton Rouge, La. to compete in the LSU Alumni Gold.
