June 7, 2006
SACRAMENTO, Calif.- - Freshman Natasha Harvey first season as a college athlete for the Jacksonville track team came to a close on Wednesday after she failed to advance making the long jump finals at the NCAA National Championship in Sacramento, Calif.
"Tasha just didn't have `it' today," said JU head coach Ron Grigg. "There is no margin for error in a meet of this caliber. It is a great learning experience for a freshman. We will put those lessons to use in two weeks when she competes in the U.S. Junior Championships and the U.S. Championships in Indianapolis."
Harvey placed 20th in the long jump preliminaries with a mark of 19'11.75" (6.09m). She needed to finish in the top 12 to advance to the finals on Thursday.
Despite not making the finals, Harvey's track season in far from over. On Wednesday, June 21, she will travel to the Indianapolis to compete in the U.S. Junior Championships and AT&T U.S. Championships.
