Natasha Harvey set to compete at the U.S. Junior Track Championships
June 21, 2006
Freshman Natasha Harvey will try to continue her long jumping success as she travels to compete in the U.S. Junior Track Championships on Thursday and the AT&T U.S. Championships on Saturday in Indianapolis, Ind.
"Thursday, Tasha will jump with the goal of making the U.S. team for World Juniors," said JU head coach Ron Grigg. "Saturday, she will gain some valuable experience for such a young athlete as she identifies all the similarities between her and the best professionals. This should be a nice conclusion to an eye-opening freshman year."
Harvey's mark at the FSU Twilight on May 6 of 21'5.25" (6.53m) leads a field of 19 athletes in the long jump at the U.S. Junior Track Championships. If she finishes in the top two at the meet, she will earn her a spot on the U.S. team to compete at the World Junior Championship in Beijing, China in August.
On Saturday, she will return to the same track to complete in the AT&T U.S. Championships with athletes such as Justin Gatlin and Marion Jones. Harvey's jump at the FSU Twilight still ranks as one of the best jumps in America and has her seeded ninth of 20 jumpers in the event, which also includes 2005 World champion Tiana Madison.
Fans can follow Harvey's progress on Friday and Saturday at the meets and other events with live coverage on www.usatf.org.
