July 17, 2006

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Jacksonville University track team now has another award to add to their trophy case to complete their successful 2006 season as the Dolphins were named one of the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic teams, announced on Monday.

"We have set high standards for ourselves both in the classroom and on the track," said JU head coach Ron Grigg. "I am proud of this group being able to achieve in both arenas."

This is the fifth consecutive year JU has made the USTFCCCA All-Academic team after posting a team grade point average of 3.051

Senior Tissilli Rogers, junior Ashley Williams, sophomore Fallon Heffernan and freshman Natasha Harvey each individually earned a spot on USTFCCA All-Academic track and field team. To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track & Field Team, an athlete must have a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher and must have met the NCAA Division I regional or national qualifying standard in her event.

In 2006, the Dolphins completed their most successful season in school history by winning the Atlantic Sun Conference Indoor and Outdoor Track Championships. Eight runners qualified for 18 events at the NCAA East Regional, while Harvey represented the Dolphins in the long jump at the NCAA National Championship. Harvey also won the long jump at the U.S. Junior Track Championships on June 22 to earn a spot on the U.S. team for the World Junior Track Championships in Beijing, China starting in August.
