Women's cross country places eighth at the Mountain Dew Invitational
Sept. 16, 2006
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -
In her first meet of 2006, junior Fallon Heffernan placed 23rd to help the Jacksonville University women's cross country team finish eighth at the Mountain Dew Invitational in Gainesville, Fla. on Saturday morning.
"We put up some nice times today, but we must remember it is a fast course," said JU head coach Ron Grigg. "If we can replicate these times in six weeks on the tougher conference course, then it will be a nice season. Our goal, as always, is to improve from meet to meet. We did that from our home opener two weeks ago and we would like to be better still in three weeks at FSU."
Heffernan, who earned Atlantic Sun All-Conference honors in 2005, finished in the top 25 with a time of 18:37.74 on the 5K course. Freshman Alyssa Deal finished 30th with a mark of 18:55.50 and Danielle Coyle ranked 59th (19:34.54).
Senior Stacey Ollar ran a time of 19:57.55 to finish 78th, while Tiffanie Saxton placed 80th with a time of 20:05.67. Alison Ritter (21:18.03) and Allison Bushey (22:00.21) rounded out the Dolphin runners.
The Dolphins return to action on Saturday, Oct. 7 in Tallahassee, Fla. to compete in the FSU Invitational.
