Women's cross country places fifth at Atlantic Sun Championships

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C - Freshman Alyssa Deal placed 11th to help the Jacksonville University women's cross country team finish fifth at the Atlantic Sun Conference Championships on Saturday morning.

"We exceeded all expectations today," said JU head coach Ron Grigg. "Our women were picked to finish seventh in the first coaches poll and took fifth, which is a great accomplishment for this group. They all ran really well."

Deal was the women's top finisher after running a time of 19:34 to earn a spot on the all-freshman team, while junior Fallon Heffernan was a step behind Deal in 12th with a time of 19:41.

Junior Danielle Coyle took 28th with 20:31, while senior Stacey Ollar ranked 33rd (20:43). Freshman Tiffanie Saxton finished 35th with a time of 20:47 and sophomore Allison Bushey placed 63rd to round out the rest of the women's runners.

Junior Trebor DeVerter paced the men's team with a time of 34:36 as the Dolphins took 10th at the conference meet.

Austin Yagle, Kurt Stahl, and Joshua Barrett all finished with a time of 39:28, while Alan Jensen was a second behind at 39:29 to wrap up the men's team.

The Dolphins shift their focus to the 2007 track season as the begin their 2006 A-Sun Indoor and Outdoor track title defense at the Florida Intercollegiates in Gainesville, Fla. on Saturday, Jan. 13.
