JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - In preparation to defend its 2006 Atlantic Sun Conference Indoor title, the Jacksonville University track and field team will travel to Gainesville, Fla. to compete in the Diet Pepsi Invitational on Saturday.

This is the Dolphins' final meet before heading to the A-Sun Indoor Track and Field Championship in Johnson City, Tenn. on Feb. 16-17.

"Overall, we are looking to see continued improvement before we prepare for the A-Sun Championship," said JU head coach Ron Grigg. "Specifically, we are looking for some good dash and long jump performances. We hope to gain some clarity in our distance medley relay personnel as well."

Entering the weekend, JU is dominating the A-Sun performance lists by holding the leading marks in nine of the 16 events, including the top four performances in the pentathlon, the top three performances in the 60-meter hurdles and the top two performances in the long jump and 400-meter dash.

At the Razorback Invitational last weekend, sophomore Natasha Harvey set the tone on the first day by placing third in just her second collegiate pentathlon. She picked up first place marks in the long jump (19'8.25") and shot put (35-02) to nearly reach an NCAA qualifying mark of 3,626 points.

Freshman Alyssa Deal placed seventh in the mile on Jan. 20., with a time of 5:10.99 to help JU complete the strong showing.

The first meet on Saturday in the Diet Pepsi Invitational begins at 11 a.m.
