Track and Field puts up good showing at Diet Pepsi Invitational

Final results from the Diet Pepsi Invitational

In their final meet before the Atlantic Sun Indoor Track and Field Championships, the JU track team put forth a good showing at the Diet Pepsi Invitational on Saturday afternoon at the O'Connell Center in Gainesville, Fla.

The Dolphins will spend the next two weeks training before heading to Johnson City, Tenn. to defend their 2006 title on Feb. 16-17.

Senior Janita Ocana led the way for the Dolphins by producing three top-10 marks. She placed seventh in the 200-meter dash with a 24.91 before finishing ninth in the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.11. Ocana recorded a long jump of 19'9.50 to rank fourth.

Sophomore Natasha Harvey finished second in the long jump with a tally of 20'5.25. She has yet to finish outside the top two marks in the long jump this indoor season.

Harvey also placed 10th in the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.20 to finish her day.

Hillary Crook took 10th in the shot put with a throw of 39'6.50", while senior Lindsay George finished 11th (37'3") in the same event. Crook also took 15th in the weight throw with 34'11.75".

Other top JU performances included Simone Clark, who ran a time of 8.18 to place 10th in the 55- meter hurdles. Freshman Alyssa Deal finished 15th in the 800-meter run with a 2:22.21. Sophomore Shaquania Lundy recorded a triple jump mark of 34'9 to place 14th and Tiffany Bromfield finished 15th in the 55-meter hurdles with a tally of 8.66.

The Dolphins open the second annual A- Sun Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday, Feb. 16.
