Natasha Harvey competes in long jump at NCAA Indoor Track Championships on Friday

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Sophomore Natasha Harvey will once again represent the JU track and field team on the big stage as she heads to Fayetteville, Ark. to compete in the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships beginning Friday.

Harvey earned a spot at the championships after recording a NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 20'9" to rank as the top collegian at the Florida Intercollegiate. on Jan. 13. Her mark currently is tied for fourth with UCLA's Rhonda Watkins heading into the event.

This is Harvey's second trip to the NCAA Championships in less than eight months. She competed in the NCAA Outdoor Championships over the summer, but fell short of the finals by placing 20th in the long jump preliminaries with a mark of 19'11.75".

"Tasha has earned her place among the best jumpers in the country to qualify for this championship," said JU head coach Ron Grigg. "Three inches separate 12 of the 16 competitors, so we will see who are the best jumpers on the day."

Less than a week after the Florida Intercollegiate, Harvey finished first in the long jump pentathlon at the Razorback Invitational with a mark of 19'8.25" on Jan. 19. The jump helped her place third overall in the pentathlon with 3,626 points.

Harvey tallied a jump of 20'5.25" to finish second in the event at the Diet Pepsi Invitational on Jan. 27.

She wrapped up the season by taking second in the long jump (19'05.05") to help the Dolphins win their second consecutive Atlantic Sun Indoor Track and Field Championship on Feb. 17. At the conference meet, Harvey accounted for 28 of the Dolphins' 150 point total.

The long jump event will start on Friday at 4 p.m.
