Track and Field wraps up Pepsi Florida Relays

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The JU track and field team showed signs of improvement from its first outdoor meet at the Pepsi Florida Relays on Friday afternoon in Gainesville, Fla.

Sophomore Janel Grooms stood out the most for the Dolphins by finishing sixth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:01.03, while wrapping up the day with a personal best time of 54.08 in the 400-meter hurdles to rank 12th.

"Today was very productive," said JU head coach Ron Grigg. "Janel had a huge 400-meter race and doubled back nicely in the 400-meter hurdles. Alyssa and Ali ran very solid 1500-meter races, while Natasha had two good hurdle races. We are moving in the right direction as a team."

Alyssa Deal was the Dolphins next highest finisher on the day when she placed eighth in the 1,500-meter run with 4:40.24. Alison Ritter ran a time of 4:44.85 to rank 15th in the same event.

In the 400-meter hurdles, sophomore Natasha Harvey tallied a time of 1:02.40 to take 11th and placed 13th in the 100-meter hurdles with 13.98 to finish her day.

The Dolphins are back in action on Saturday April 21, when they travel to Baton Rouge, La. for the LSU Alumni Gold.
