JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - After two weeks of strictly training, the JU track and field team will participate in the LSU Alumni Gold on Saturday at Bernie Moore Stadium in Baton Rouge, La.

"This is a big weekend for us," said JU head coach Ron Grigg. "The weather will be perfect as we line up against No. 2 LSU, No. 6 Texas A&M and No.17 Tennessee amongst others. Everything should be just right for great performances. Our goal is to achieve some regional qualifiers and hopefully make a run at some school records."

The Dolphins return to the track after showing steady improvement at the Pepsi Florida Relays in Gainesville, Fla. Sophomore Janel Grooms stood out the most for JU by finishing sixth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:01.03, while wrapping up the day with a personal best time of 54.08 in the 400-meter hurdles to rank 12th.

In last year's LSU Alumni Gold, the Dolphins traveled five athletes but produced six lifetime bests and six regional qualifiers. Sophomore Natasha Harvey paced the group by breaking the school record in the long jump for the second consecutive week with a mark of 20'10". She also ran a personal-best 13.89 in the 100-meter hurdles to improve her regional qualifying mark.

Senior Janita Ocana recorded a then personal-best 20'0.5" in the long jump and finished fifth in the 200-meter dash with a regional qualifying mark of 23.81 to add to the Dolphins' success.
