Track and Field fares well at UCF Golden Knight Twilight

ORLANDO, Fla. - Sophomore Janel Grooms is rewriting the record books as she set another school mark to help the JU track and field team finish well at the UCF Golden Knight Twilight on Saturday.

Grooms broke the school record in her first attempt at the 800-meter dash with a time of 2:11.92 to finish as the top collegian (second overall). On April 21, she posted a regional qualifying time of 58.86 to break the school mark in the 400-meter hurdles at the LSU Alumni Gold.

Sophomore Natasha Harvey won the long jump by over two feet with her second consecutive regional qualifying mark of 20'6.5" (6.26m).

In the throws, senior Lindsay George finished seventh in the discus throw with a personal best of 123-10, while Hillary Crook had a personal best in the hammer throw with 125-11 to place fifth. Crook (41'6.5") and George (40'0.5') would finish sixth and seventh, respectively, in the shot put.

Other top JU performers were senior Janita Ocana, who placed fifth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.16.The Dolphin relay teams placed first in the 4x100-meter relay (46.01) and second in the 4x400 meter relay (3:47.94), while freshman Tiffany Bromfield ran a time of 15.08 to take ninth in the 100-meter hurdles.

The Dolphins will now spend the new two weeks training before heading to Johnson City, Tenn. for the Atlantic Sun Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships to defend their 2006 title on May 11-12.
