Natasha Harvey and Janel Grooms fare well at NCAA East Regional

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Sophomores Natasha Harvey and Janel Grooms each picked up where they left off from the conference championships by recording quality marks on the first day of the NCAA East Regional in Gainesville, Fla. on Friday night.

Harvey finished third in the long jump to qualify for her second straight NCAA Championship, while Grooms broke the school record in the 400-meter hurdles for the second time this season to earn a spot in Saturday's final.

"Both Tasha and Janel had their best performances at the most important time of the year," said JU head coach Ron Grigg. "Tasha is automatically in the NCAA Championships, while Janel is in a good position to join her at the national meet. I couldn't be more proud of them."

Harvey is heading to second NCAA Championship meet after tallying a jump of 21 feet (6.40m). She finished just behind Monmouth senior Tisifenee Taylor (21'0.75") and Miami senior Amy Seward (21'1.5") in the event.

Grooms ran a time of 58.37, the fifth best time of the day, to secure the sixth seed in the 400-meter hurdles final. It was her second school-record in the event after posting a 58.86 to finish second at the LSU Alumni Gold on April 21.

Harvey will start preparing for the NCAA Championships, which takes place in Sacramento, Calif. beginning on June 6.
