Natasha Harvey and Janel Grooms to represent JU at NCAA track Regionals in Gainesville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Sophomores Natasha Harvey and Janel Grooms will be looking to punch a ticket to the NCAA Championships when they compete at the NCAA East Regionals beginning on Friday in Gainesville, Fla.
Harvey is looking to qualify for the national meet for the second straight year in the long jump, while Grooms is competing in the 400-meter hurdles.
Both return to the track for their first competition in more than a week after helping the JU track and field team put up a 179-point performance to win its second straight Atlantic Sun Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship on May 12. The win also gave the Dolphins their second consecutive title sweep in two seasons since winning the A-Sun Indoor Track and Field Championship on Feb. 17.
"Both Janel and Natasha have legitimate shots at being national qualifiers," said JU head coach Ron Grigg. "We plan for the season's best performances against the best competition."
Harvey reached the regional meet by producing three consecutive regional qualifying jumps in the last three meets, including a season best leap of 20'6.5" to win the event at the UCF Twilight on April 28. She also recorded a mark of 20'3.5" to take the long jump title at the A-Sun Outdoor Championships.
Grooms ran a school record time of 58.86 in the 400-meter hurdles at the LSU Alumni Gold on April 21 to earn her spot in the regionals. Grooms also has regional qualifying time in the 400-meter dash (53.92)
The NCAA East Regional is set to begin on Friday with the hammer throw at noon. Harvey will compete in the long jump at 6 p.m., while Grooms is set to run in the 400-meter hurdles at 7:10 p.m. Fans can keep up with all the live results from the meet through gatorzone.com.
